With the rising prices of gas — and everything else for that matter —many people are opting to create their own vegetable gardens in their backyard. If you are considering this, you may want to take a moment to think about which vegetables are toxic for your pets! Even if you plan to keep Fido out of the garden, accidents
do happen. Here is a quick list of veggies that are healthy and toxic for our furry friends:
Healthy Veggies
- Broccol
- Carrots
- Cabbage
- Celery
- Cucumber
- Green beans
- Kale
- Parsley
- Spinach
- Bananas (in small quantity)
Veggies Known to be Toxic to Dogs
- Asparagus
- Avocado (fruit, pit & plant)
- Black Cherry
- Cherry
- Grapes (Raisins)
- Lima Beans
- Mushroom
- Onion
- Plum
- Prune
- Rhubarb
Remember to
never give fruit seeds to your dog, since these can be toxic. Give your dog fruits and vegetables in small amounts. Too many fruits and vegetables can cause your dog to have an upset stomach and / or diarrhea. Try a small sample the first time, like a treat, to see how it settles on their stomach and with their system. Small amounts of vegetables on the healthy list can actually help dogs with sensitive stomachs. So with the right planning, this summer's gardens can be beneficial for everyone!
